Angry birds is the most well known iPhone and iPad app out there. The game has caught the imagination of millions of people the world over. When you play the game the idea is to kill little pigs with your set of Angry Birds and basically score as many points as possible. With the release of Game Centre last year, players now have the ability to register their score on a global leaderboard. However this has caused some people to question the integrity of certain players.

I have been playing angry birds for a long time. My total score is currently around the 18.5 million mark, this puts me at a global rank of about 8000. I will improve my score as I play on it more and more, however, some of the score on the leaderboard are simply not possible when you play the game in the standard way. The top score comes in at a crazy 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. Strangely the second place score is identical. These two score are head and shoulders ahead of anything else, but I would say that the top 7 scores are all ridiculously high and must have been fabricated in some way.

People who see these scores and try and come up with answer as to how people have managed it assume it’s some secret based on golden eggs. Others think that maybe it has something to do with the recently launched Mighty Eagle. But the fact is there is no way to score extra points on the golden eggs levels or by using the Mighty Eagle. So these players must be getting there incredibly high scores from somewhere else. I have trawled the net, talked to friends, played the game for hours and basically done everything I could to find answers to the question of how people get such high scores on Angry Birds. I am sorry to say the answers are inconclusive. The fact is that of the millions of players who play Angry Birds, only 7 people have managed to cheat the system, so this is obviously a pretty closely guarded secret. However, there are plenty of theories out there.

One such theory is that of scoring all those points on a single lucky shot. Surely not I hear you say. However, just think for a moment. Have you ever fired a bird and got it wedged somewhere in between two obstacles. Very occasionally this can happen and slowly your score starts to tick up. Usually after a while the bird breaks free and the points stop. But once or twice I have obtained a few thousand points from a lucky shot like this. Could it be that a player has got a bird stuck somewhere and then just left it to accumulate a mass of points? Chances are to register enough points to top the leaderboard you would have to leave the game running for weeks on end, but it could happen.

Another theory that is far more plausible is that someone has come up with some kind of cheat patch software. The idea is this gives you unlimited chances of scoring points and makes the game very easy to manipulate. Another simple idea is that someone has simply hacked into the Game Centre control centre and doctored their score in that way. Again this is something some people are no doubt capable of and it would explain the extreme scores. One thing that really is a mystery is why the top two scores are the same. If you were able to just put in any score you wanted, surely you would make it higher than the first place score.

The fact is that there are possibly only 7 people in the world who know exactly how these outrageous Angry Birds high scores have been achieved. It’s interesting to look at some possibilities but to be honest it probably doesn’t matter. Many people believe that Game Centre should remove the top scores from the list as they are clearly fake, but as to whether they will or not remains to be seen. So for now don’t worry about trying to get 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 points on Angry Birds. Just play the game for fun and do your best to create your own high score on Angry Birds.
